Fact: I've been avoiding Good News Gardening because with the recent warm, sunny weather and that little thing called a "pandemic," I kind of figured that gardening stores would be like grocery stores that first weekend of COVID-19 when the stay-at-home order came out the same weekend we got snow. If you were at Safeway, you know what I'm talking about. I was particularly worried because I saw headlines like "U.S. reels toward meat shortage; world may be next," and "Fearing Shortages, People Are Planting More Vegetable Gardens." Yet, as of Friday, Good News Gardening was well-stocked with veggie, fruit, and herb starts. So, if you need those things I'd say to go ahead and visit Good News Gardening. The checkout counter in the tomato section was a bit crowded on Friday afternoon, as you might expect since the parking lot was full. Even so, there was more than enough room to navigate and most people were spread out enough throughout the space that even in bottleneck areas, if you just gave it a minute it cleared out.
When I checked out, the lady mentioned the store is still getting its regular shipments, which explains why I found rows on rows of tomato plants. I'm not sure how every section is but if you're looking for herbs or tomatoes, you'll find a large selection with all types of varietals. Happy gardening! -Melissa Good News Gardening is open normal hours 9:00am - 5:30pm Mon-Sat and 9:00am - 5:00pm Sun. Find it at 1086 Tucker Road, Hood River, OR. Phone: (541) 386-6438
