first look: Wheel's hood river at wy'east vineyards

8/18/2021

Comments

Oh man, are we late on this one, but here's a first look at Wheel's, the new food cart at Wy'East Vineyards.

Opened in late April, the cart serves a selection of charcuterie boards, sandwiches, and snacks. It's located near the tasting room, but outdoors at Wy'East, with its own patio tables and picnic benches with umbrellas for shade, so you can purchase a bottle of wine and then grab a table to sit and eat.

The cart is run by Keely Reed (the daughter of Wy'East owners Christie and Dick Reed) and her partner Ben.

If you go:
Kids menu: YES
Cards accepted: Yes (Visa · American Express · Mastercard · Discover)
Hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday ~12-5.
When it's hot: When the heat gets crazy, Wheel's typically keeps cooking, but adjusts its menu to be more grill-centric. Think burgers, brats, and beers, as well as the charcuterie boards.

First Look: Local Rhoots in the heights

8/17/2021

Comments

Recently, Local Rhoots opened in the Heights in the old Monogan’s Pancake spot (1301 Belmont Ave.).

Founded in 2018, Local Rhoots is owned by Sam Rodgers. With the new space, the company has expanded from its original meal subscription service and now offers grab-and-go options as well, so you don't need to be a subscriber to drop in and grab something to eat.

Grab-and-go options include heat-and-eat meals like breakfast sandwiches and dinners, as well as on-the-go lunches like salads. Plan to spend about $14 per meal. A selection of frozen meals are available to take home and bake at a later time, too.

Hours are 12-5 daily during the week. We picked up a peach and burrata salad for $14 and also the Chinese omelet + salad (also $14).

Find the current grab and go menu on Local Rhoot’s Facebook page or on Instagram (usually posted as a story).

Allergy-friendly/specialty diet options include gluten-free foods, vegetation foods, keto-friendly foods, vegan items, and dairy-free as well.

If you'd like to help reduce food waste, you can put a deposit down on a set of glass containers ($40) and pick up your food in reusable containers. Otherwise, you can just grab a one-use container and eat on the go, for instance if you're driving through Hood River on the way to the mountain.
