Food Carts Galore at 1501 12th st.

The parking lot at 1501 12th St. is now home to Ladles Soup, Mona's Kitchen, Solstice Mobile, and Orange Cuisine. Here's a little info on each of them:

Ladle's Soup

Hours: 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Wed-Friday and 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sun or until sold out. Hours subject to change. Please check the current hours on Ladle's Instagram page: @ladelsouphoodriver

Hours updated 11/2. Previously, the soup cart was open Monday and Tuesday.

Food: Soup and bread! Dairy-free and gluten-free options usually available.

Prices: Soup is $4 for 8 ounces; $8 for 16 ounces; $15 for 32 ounces. Slices of bread w/butter $2 or a whole loaf for $6.

Payment: Accepts cards as well as cash.

Sample soups: The menu changes often, but we have seen a butternut squash (amazing!), broccoli cheddar, potato rosemary, and Thai zucchini.

History: Erin Loughran began her soup business in September at the HR farmer's market. Now she spends her weekdays in the Heights at her food truck and her Saturdays at the market.

Mona's Kitchen

Hours: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Mon-Friday, intermittently closed. Hours subject to change.

Food: Mexican. See pictures for menu.

Prices: $3-$13

Payment: Accepts cards as well as cash.

Solstice Mobile Pizza

Hours: Sun & Wed - Thu: 3:30-7:30; Fri & Sat: 11:30-7:30.

Food: Pizza! and salad. See the menu here.

Prices: $6 (slice) -$26 (whole pizza with ALL the toppings)

Payment: Online, cash, card

History: The mobile truck chills at the waterfront during summer and migrates to the Heights for fall and winter. Same pizza as Solstice on the waterfront. For the most part, the menu is the same, as well.

Orange Cuisine

Hours: About 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tue-Friday for now.

Hours last updated 11/2/2021. Previously Orange Cuisine was open Mondays.

Food: Chinese such as fried rice, chow mien, egg rolls, and pot stickers.

Prices: $5-13

Payment: Cash only for now. Venmo in emergencies.

@ladelsouphoodriver does not seem to be correct. Every time I go over there, they are out of soup or closed. Yesterday I even went early (1ish maybe). I would love something that provides daily menus and updates if they run out or are closed.

Hey! You could totally be right. We were there about when you were, I think! I swung by about 1:30 to grab some photos and saw they were sold out. I decided to publish the hours the businesses told me they were open. It's a weird spot to be in because, for instance, Mona's told me they were open 5 days a week, but I saw them closed when I dropped by on Tuesday at noon. It seems like tons of places around town have just been closed on and off because of labor, burnout, vacations, maintenance issues, staffing issues, shortages, etc. In the end, I think the best thing for us at HRE to do is post the hours people say they're open and remind people to call ahead before they go since there have been sooo many unexpected closures. I wish there was a better way to do it. When I notice a few places are closed on a certain day, I try to do a round-up post on my social, but I just don't have the woman-power (as a one-woman team) to keep track of every closure these days. I'm sorry they were closed when you dropped by!

Have patients, it's worth the frustration to eat their food. I've tried all of them, and it's no wonder if the soup place runs out, it's fabulouse!

Things are definitely improving with regular hours and the soup is definitely delicious My post was not frustration as much as a suggestion for some kind of social media postings where I could see if they were open and what the days offerings are.
