Here in Hood River, we have an abundance of local farms. A perk of having these farms is that you can sign up for a CSA, basically you can sign up to have a farm set aside a basket of fruits/veggies for you once a week, once every other week, or even once a month, depending on the farm. Some farms let you pick what fruits/veggies you want. The CSA I'm a member of delivers right to my door every other week for a ~$5 delivery fee, so I can be super lazy and let my veggies come to me! Likewise, some farms charge per basket and others ask you to pay for a season worth of veggies/fruits/etc. Here in Hood River, we have several CSA options. Some are booked up right now but you can get on a wait list. Now is a great time to join a CSA if you can/want to, because it brings the produce directly to you from the farmer, cutting out all the middlemen and saving you trips to the store. Here are a few I know of, let me know what you like and what I should add!
Hood River Organic: Pickup or Delivery in Hood River on Wednesdays. Boxes range from $29/week to $59/week. Pay weekly or for 10 weeks at a time. Stop any time you want. Customize your box each week based on what's available (don't like radishes, swamp them for carrots!). Add other things like milk, cheese, and bread, if you want. https://hoodriverorganic.csaware.com/fresh-fruit-veggies-box-C2601 My personal opinion is that this is a good CSA to start with if you're new to CSAs and want to give it a low-committment try. Tumbleweed Farm: Pickup Tuesdays or Saturdays. You commit to an entire season (23 weeks) for a total price of $800. The owner is also a cookbook author and sends recipe suggestions/suggested uses for produce each week. Sign up at http://www.gotumbleweed.com/ ----- CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.
