Thursday Tidbits

Chef Kesh has introduced a winter soup subscription to the Gorge. Learn more at https://keshsoups.carrd.co/

Soup is on, chocolate mousse is back, and a few summer favorites are making their last appearances. This week’s Gorge food news includes fall treats, fresh pours, barbecue, and a couple of dates to put on your calendar.

Camp 1805 makes Wednesdays a little easier with happy hour all day. Downtown Hood River, OR.

6th Street Bistro has brought back its chocolate mousse. That’s the tidbit. That’s all the reason we need. Downtown Hood River, OR.

Love & Hominy is getting ready to retire its summer cocktail menu, so the Lychee Tini and Frosé won’t be around much longer. There’s still time for one last summer sip. Downtown Hood River, OR.

Working Hands Beer brings Pizza Night back next week, along with a new lineup of small plates. Keep an eye out for what’s coming out of the kitchen. The Heights, Hood River, OR.

KickStand Coffee & Kitchen has breakfast on its mind, from burritos and chilaquiles to tacos and breakfast sandwiches. The sandwich pictured here makes a pretty good case for stopping in. 1235 State Street in Hood River.

Cooler days call for heartier meals, and The Cauldron Cafe has two new reasons to stop by: a Reuben on rye and a corned beef hash are now on the menu. Open 8am - 3pm, closed Thursdays. Cascade Ave, Hood River.

Pear Bloom Farm is heading into its last weekend among the marigolds. On Saturday, October 17, stop by for seasonal drinks at the garden bar, face painting, pumpkin and frame painting, marigold garland making, and an autumn bake sale. The farm is open Thursday–Sunday.

Grasslands Barbecue will have tri-tip this Sunday, October 18—and it’s your last chance to get it this year. It’s also their final Sunday service in Hood River before they switch to Saturdays only. They open at 11 a.m. Looking ahead, pre-Thanksgiving orders open Monday, October 26, through their website. Waterfront, Hood River, OR.

Mount Hood BBQ is getting ready for the Harvest Craft Fair at the Hood River County Fairgrounds on October 24–25, with giant turkey legs on the menu. Plan accordingly.

Sugarpine Drive-In in Troutdale is celebrating Kiyokawa Apple Month with a sundae featuring Kiyokawa Family Orchard apples. Vanilla bean soft serve gets topped with Mountain Rose and Crimson Gold apple compote, Clear Creek apple brandy custard, and buttery, gluten-free hazelnut crisp. The drive-in is open Thursday–Monday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Over in Lyle, Domaine Pouillon has released two new wines. The 2025 White Dot is an even blend of Chardonnay and Viognier, made in stainless steel and neutral oak to keep the fruit at the forefront. Ramato NV is a dry orange wine made with 70% Underwood Mountain Pinot Gris and 30% Verdelho from Foxley Vineyard in Lyle. Three years in cask bring texture and barrel character, with notes of apricot, black tea, and bergamot. Visit Thursday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.

Soup season is here

French’s Farm in Lyle is hosting a Soup Pop-Up, and preorders are open. Reserve scratch-made soups, stock up on favorite ice creams, or pick out a few more plants. Order by October 19 at 11:55 p.m., then pick up your goods and join the shop shenanigans October 24–25, noon–5 p.m., at 620 State Street.

Chef Kesh is bringing soup to the Gorge this winter. Winter soup passes are available this month, with Wednesday pickups at his kitchen in Bingen. You can also join him for Wednesday-night soup speakeasies at Nativ Cafe in White Salmon, and Sunday mingle evenings at Outbound Wellness in Hood River.

A goodbye—and something to watch for

We’re sad to say Golden Goods, Hood River’s vegan sandwich shop, has closed its doors. There’s news ahead for the space, though: a familiar face is planning to move in. More on that when there’s more to share.

That’s this week’s roundup. If tri-tip, marigolds, or a Lychee Tini are on your list, this is your reminder to make plans to visit.
