Thursday Tidbits
Harvest Fest, Halloween Cookies & Weekend BBQ
Harvest Fest is back on the waterfront this weekend, Halloween cookies are making an appearance, and there’s plenty of good food to work into your plans. This week’s Tidbits includes a seasonal salad send-off, a pumpkin deal, and a few reasons to make a day of it in Hood River.
A seasonal switch at Boda’s Kitchen
There’s about one more week to catch Boda’s Kitchen’s Grilled Corn Salad before the seasonal menu shifts. Up next: Maple Bourbon Delicata Squash. A pretty good reason to come back.
Spooky sweets at Dani’s Kitchen Shop
Dani’s Kitchen Shop is making some beautifully spooky cookies, and Halloween box orders are open until Monday, October 19, at 8 a.m. Want to make your own spooky faces? Halloween DIY kits are available at the shop every Friday through Halloween.
Pumpkins with a view at Mt. View Orchards
Mt. View Orchards has a pumpkin deal worth a trip: buy any three pumpkins and get a fourth of equal or lesser value free. Admission is always free, and the mountain views come with the visit.
Harvest Fest returns to the waterfront
Hood River’s Harvest Fest runs October 9–11 at the Hood River Event Site. Browse pears, apples, pickles, garlic, local snacks and beverages, flowers, plants, and pumpkins, plus an artisan market featuring more than 85 makers. There’s also plenty to eat, a full bar with local beer, cider, wine, and spirits, live music all weekend, and a large kids’ area.
Friday: 1–6 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Lobster rolls at the festival
Cousins Maine Lobster’s Portland food truck will also be at Harvest Fest, serving lobster rolls and more. Something to keep in mind when lunchtime rolls around.
A little farther down the waterfront…
On the green behind Ferment, Grasslands Barbecue is bringing back lamb chops this Saturday and barbacoa on Sunday. Their Hill Country beef ribs are now on the menu every Sunday, too. Between the festival and barbecue, it sounds like a pretty good weekend to spend in Hood River.
More BBQ at Backwoods Brewing
Backwoods Brewing’s Smoke House Platter brings together brisket, pulled pork, and linguica sausage, with bacon white cheddar potato salad and Texas toast. Bring an appetite for this one.
Coming up: Hood River’s HalloWine Walk
Mark October 24, from 1–5 p.m., for an afternoon of wine tasting around downtown Hood River. HalloWine Walk stops include Porrón Cellars, Waucoma Bookstore, Double Strand Wine at 64 Taphouse, and more, with Gorge wines to try along the way.
And yes, Thanksgiving is already on the radar
It may feel a little early, but Columbia Gorge Hotel & Spa is already taking Thanksgiving reservations. If dining out is part of your holiday plan, here’s your nudge to get a head start.
That’s this week’s roundup. See you around the Gorge!
