Thursday Tidbits
Pixan Tacos Winter Greens Salad
From a new Argentine-inspired restaurant in Klickitat to winter salads, flavorful pizzas, oyster pop-ups, cozy soup nights, and the return of the Hood River Farmers Market, here’s what’s fresh this week in the Gorge.
Looking for a change of scenery? Head up the Klickitat River on 142, roughly 13 miles from Lyle to the town of Klickitat, and check out this new spot on Main Street. The Hive is serving a mix of U.S. & Argentine cuisine — think fugazzeta pizza, empanadas, dulce de leche flan, and a full bar. Open Thursday–Sunday, 11 AM to late at 105 Main Street.
Back in Hood River, pFriem Family Brewers just released Krush West Coast IPA, brewed with one of the Pacific Northwest’s newest hop varieties. Nicknamed the “fruit cocktail of hops”, it features punchy aromas of tangerine, peach, and mango and marries perfectly with a crisp West Coast IPA base. 707 Portway Ave.
Thursday nights are cozy at Cork Hood River (1106 12th Street), where homemade soup from Pine Street Bakery starts at 4 PM (until 8 PM or sold out), served with a fresh baguette and a glass of wine. Soup nights continue through February and March. Also this week: Hungarian mushroom soup at Solstice (501 Portway Ave) and Wing Wednesdays at Tilly Jane’s (1803 12th St.).
On Saturday, Hood River Common House hosts an Oyster Lovers Pop-Up in collaboration with COR Cellars and Oregon Fish Company. Oysters will be cleaned and prepped, $30 per dozen — a perfect way to ease into the weekend. (110 5th Street)
Menu updates worth noting:
Backwoods Brewing Co. in Carson now has Strawberry Shortcake Cheesecake and Banana Walnut Coffee Cake.
At Ferment Brewing in Hood River, the Winter Harvest Salad — chicories, roasted squash, hazelnuts, feta, maple tahini — pairs beautifully with a pint.
Pixan in White Salmon still has its Winter Greens salad on the menu, but not for much longer—Winter Greens: Treviso, chicory, roasted delicata, pickled red onion, cured olives, pine nuts. Catch it before the season changes.
And Double Mountain (Hood River) has a new KPop Pizza with chili oil, gochujang-marinated pork, and gochujang cream — excellent with a Jiro Japanese Lager.
For something sweet, Kaile’a Coffee Co. is pouring a Pink Velvet Macchiato with raspberry, shortbread syrup, white chocolate, and espresso.
101 WaNaPa St. Cascade Locks.
And at Stave & Stone, Artichoke Dip or Rosemary Garlic Fondue pairs with estate-grown Pinot Noir (open Feb 20–22 and Feb 27–March 1, 12–6 PM).
3827 Fletcher Drive, Hood River.
And finally, the Hood River Farmers Market returns this Saturday. Look for favorites like B’s Sweets, Bran & Ash, Roots Rise Family Farm, Cascadia Creamery, Good Medicine Tea, Pacific Honeybeez, Soul Seeds Love, and Mother Mullein Herbs, who are introducing CommuniTea — a calming herbal blend with 100% of proceeds supporting a rotating charity, starting with The Immigrant Defense Fund.
